Taming the See Food Eat Food Response

What happens when you're just minding your business and suddenly someone walks by with a delicious looking cake, muffins, or some other goodie you weren't expecting. You weren't hungry a minute ago but now you are suddenly ravenous. So you jump up and rush to get yours before it's all gone. After you get back to your desk and a few minutes go by, what happens? You suddenly realize you want more. Your stomach may be growling in fact. You can still see those muffins in your mind's eye. You want them. A few minutes pass while you debate, "I want another, No, I shouldn't, but, I really want one, they sure tasted good. If I don't hurry they might all be gone, what about your diet, who cares? I'm getting one," and off you go.

Frustrating, isn't it? All you need is a plan for when the unexpected food suddenly drives you to eat. It's not like this isn't going to happen time and again, so having a way to deal with it, in that moment, is better than simply being swept up in the wave of wanting. The old pattern of see food, want food, eat food, get angry about eating food, eat more to get over feeling angry, get angrier, give up, eat more. This cycle generally ends when you either pass out or the food is gone. It doesn't have to be this way.

TV commercials also induce this see food, want food response, which is why so many people overeat in the evening while watching their favorite shows.

Try this new approach using a technique caled EFT. It's effective in that it forestalls the immediate pattern of jumping up and rushing to get a treat, and gives you a moment or two to think about what's happening. Realizing you want a treat is fine, and deciding to have a treat is fine too, but simply eating out of a primal see food/eat food response is not okay. You can move past that immediate driven response to food cues by using this approach.

Step 1: The Desire to Eat Unexpected Food

Do a round of EFT the first moment you suddenly are struck by a desire to eat (when you weren't hungry or thinking of food a moment before):

"Even though seeing those muffins made me hungry, I deeply and completely accept myself."

"Even though I'm suddenly starving, I deeply and completely accept myself."

"Even though I want some cake (or whatever it is), I deeply and completely accept myself."

"Even though I know once I start, I'll never stop eating all day, I deeply and completely accept myself."

"Even though I'll wreck my diet today, I deeply and completely accept myself."

Now, these statements make not appear to make much sense, but if you've used EFT in the past, you'd know that a quick round of EFT on whatever it is that's first and foremost in your mind (the thing you want, despite that you wish you did not), is what you want to address. That's how EFT works. I don't know anything about my car's engine, but I can drive. You don't have to understand every nuance of EFT or why it works to use it. Just do use it. Step 2: Spending Your Calories Wisely

First check out the offerings by looking them over. Food, especially unexpected food, has to qualify before I'd even consider eating some. For me a food qualifies as special by how it looks, it's texture, taste, and whether it truly is "special." Does it appear good enough to spend my day's calories on? I do pay attention, and I know I have a certain amount of calories on any given day and I don't want to waste them. If the food is ordinary (something I could buy myself any day of the week), then more often than not I'll choose to pass, saving my calorie expenditure on something I deem more worthy.

I think to myself, "I'd rather have cheesecake," which means I decide whether I want this food, or whether I'd rather go get something better later. I can always stop by the bakery on my way home. There are other things I like better which I could have instead. Think of your own favorite treat and use that when confronted with unexpected food that you may want, but it's not fabulous, just ordinary.

By ordinary I mean doughnuts bought at the supermarket that are nothing special, or a bakery cake with icing you don't like. I don't like typical bakery shortening icing and always scrape it off because the cake's still okay. Don't eat parts of the food you don't even like. Chips, pretzels, cookies, etc. Are they home made or store bought. You can buy the store bought brands any day, they aren't special at all. Take a pass. Save your calories for something really special. I'd rather skip the morning treats and have a piece or two of excellent chocolate tonight.

If you take a bite and find the food is not as good as you expected, you don't have to eat it. "Really? I don't have to eat it?" That's right, you can choose to not eat. There is simply no way I'm wasting calories on food I don't even like. No one is going to notice you aren't eating. Talk to those around you. Laugh, enjoy yourself. Set the plate down, walk away. No one will even notice. If someone says, "Aren't you going to eat that?," you can say, "In a minute," and go on chattering. They'll forget all about it. Their only making conversation, they really don't care whether you eat, believe me.

If the idea of leaving food or throwing food away is more than you can tolerate, use EFT on that issue too:

"Even though I can't stand to throw away food ..."

"Even though I hate wasting food ..."

"Even though there is no way I can throw away perfectly good food ..."

"Even though my mother said you should never waste food ..."

Being unable to "waste" food is usually a holdover from childhood. You can outgrow childhood conditioning, if you want to. If you hold on to those beliefs, fine. There are no rules here. Just go with whatever comes up, using EFT on anything and everything, and you'll be amazed at the difference it can make.

Step 3: Ending Food Cravings Even When You Don't Want To

Do a round of EFT on the desire to eat anyway. If you think you don't really want the food, but yet you do. In other words, you can't decide not to eat it, or you're deciding not to do the EFT because you want to eat it anyway, then do the EFT first, have the food second. You'll still get to eat the goodies. No one is taking anything away from you.

You may still want the food but find your desire has lessened. You'll want it because you're hungry for it, or you'll want to take some and save it for later when you are hungrier. You can always save some for later. There is no food police to take it away if you don't eat it right now. Nobody is going to scold you for not finishing your food. Maybe when you were 6-year sold, but not now.

If any memories pop up about eating, leaving food, your mother telling you what you should or should not do, wasting food, or about getting enough to eat, use EFT on those too. That's the best way to use EFT, just go with the flow of your thoughts, ideas, memories. You'll get where you want to go without needing to know the details in advance. Just use EFT on whatever thoughts pop up, and slowly those emotional issues and faulty beliefs will melt away like light snowfall in the afternoon sun.

If you take these three steps and still want to eat, go ahead and eat. You'll feel okay about what you're eating, and that's the point. Doing what is best for you in the moment is what really taking care of yourself is all about.

Think back to when you first starting working in your profession. There was quite a bit of variance in the talent and intelligence of your many peers, wasn't there?

Now that you've moved up the food chain, the variance isn't so big, is it? After a certain point, talent and intelligence alone won't help you get ahead. It's the mind game that counts. You can psych yourself up or psych yourself out.

One tool I've used with clients for many years is from the world of sports psychology. I first learned this tool from Dr. Rebecca Kraus, a sports psychologist for the Olympics and a superb trainer at the Center for Creative Leadership.

I've modified the approach just a bit over the years for pragmatic reasons. When you're having trouble with a particular performance (say, you repeatedly clam up in important meetings) or you just want to improve a skill (like putting), give it a try.

There are five steps and I do recommend that you do them all:

1. Pre-Performance: This is like a rehearsal. Go through the entire performance in your mind, as close to real time as you can get within the confines of your schedule.

2. Pre-Act: immediately before the performance, visualize the performance as if on fast forward 3. Performance

4. Post-Act: immediately after the performance, remember the performance as if on fast forward

5. Post-Performance: remember the performance more slowly, analyzing how you did and identifying any needed changes in your performance

To get the most value from the visualization process, try the following:

* Visualize yourself in the actual room, on the putting green - wherever you will be performing.

* Imagine the entire situation with vividness and clarity.

* Imagine the feel of the action, what it would really be like to be in the meeting or on that putting green right now.

* This is not an exercise in perfectly predicting the future - just take reasonable guesses about what will happen, what others will say and do, how they will respond, etc.

* Succeed mightily during the rehearsal. If you start to fail in the rehearsal, rewind and do the failing part over until you are successful.

* Take a few deep breaths before visualization and again before the performance to relax. Unclench your fists, too.

* The night before the event and the morning of the event, relive your best previous performance. If you have not yet had a successful performance, relive a different successful performance that is in some way similar.

Now, get out there and knock their socks off!

5 Raw Food Tips For Dining Out

Choosing to eat raw when out and about doesn't have to mean that the dining experience needs to become something you come to dread.

Follow my 5 Raw Food Tips for Dining Out and I'm positive your future meals out will be all the more enjoyable for it!

1) Enjoy your meal! Naturally its important that what you eat out is something you are really going to enjoy. No good salivating at the sight of your favourite cooked dish being devoured by the person sitting next to you while youre left trying to make a side salad last all night and searching for something filling (or palatable) in amongst the limp pale lettuce! This is where preparation comes in, so either call up the restaurant in advance and spell it out to them what youd really, really love (be polite, friendly, grateful and painstakingly precise and you should be fine) or select very carefully from the menu so that you have the finest plate of food in the restaurant. People cannot fail to be inspired by colour and variety on your plate Ive seen heads turn time and time again at the rainbow salads Ive created from an apparently limited menu. For how to do this, read on.

2) Made to order. If you dont have time to ring ahead or check out the menu in advance, then you are taking a chance, but it doesnt have to end in tears. The best way I have found to get something Im happy with (sometimes even delighted with!) is to master the art of menu scanning. This means looking at everything on the menu, memorizing what bits sound raw, and then asking the waiter ever so politely if they would mind making you a HUGE salad (you have to overplay this bit just to get a decent size!), and then adding (fill in the blanks from what you see). For instance, I usually start with melon easy, straightforward, delicious. Then for main, I will request the HUGE salad, and then, assuming Ive seen avocado, nuts, olives, sundries tomatoes and fruit somewhere (anywhere!) on the menu, Ill ask for as many of those things to be added on to my plate as possible. Ive never been refused yet, and rarely disappointed. And yes, heads turn and people drool!

3) The final analysis. When it comes to dessert, as above, this can make or break the evening. This isnt about being perfect or holier than thou, but if youve taken good care to order fresh, raw food for your starter and main course then it would be a real shame to drown it in cream and pastry afterwards wouldnt it? If youre new to this or not ready (or willing) to forgo rich desserts, thats definitely your prerogative, but if you do want to stay on course then a fresh fruit salad should always be available, even if its a simple bowl of berries or a second helping of melon. (Yes, I know, not ideal food combining, but hey!)

4) After dinner quiz anyone?! Post dessert, more questions may follow. Youll be feeling ready to rock and roll, while your companions might be feeling ready to fall asleep! This is the time when theyll be reminded why they dont always enjoy the meal as much as they thought they might (and you'll be reminded of why you do), and this will also be the time when they may very well start to take more of an interest in what youve eaten that night. This is the time to stay relaxed and at ease with it all, keep answering those questions and if it feels appropriate why not offer to email them a recipe or two, or invite them over for a raw night? People love novelty and if you can let them know to expect more than a restaurant-style salad then youll stand a much better chance of them accepting! 5) What its really all about. And finally, remember, eating out may be a lot about the food but primarily its about the company. So dont shortchange your friends and family by retreating into your shell when youre eating out with them. Share who you are, raw vibes and all, and talk about things other than food as much as humanly possible!

With slick advertising, colorful bags, and multiple aisles of different brands, choosing the right food for your dog can be a confusing and daunting task. However, a number of key factors that contribute to making the right decision can be found right on the dog food label!

The first thing to remember when selecting a food for your dog is to completely ignore the bright and colorful pictures on the fronts of the bags! Many dog food bags are designed to attract the attention of the humans seeking them out and use adorable pictures of dogs and appealing colors to give the impression that the contents of the bag are as wonderful as the outside design. In many cases, however, this is not the case and, in fact, this is usually an indication of the exact opposite! Although people are often fooled by cute pictures, clever slogans, and perfectly shaped and colored nuggets of food, the reality is that the most important aspect of any dog food is its nutritional content and not the clever packaging design or delicious-looking nuggets.

One of the best indicators of the quality of a particular brand of dog food is the list of ingredients and, by far, the most important ingredient to look at is the very first one that appears on the list! Generally, the first ingredient comprises between 70% and 80% of the total content of the food and the first three ingredients combined make up 90% to 95% of the food! Dogs are naturally carnivores and, as such, they require their main staple to be some kind of meat in order to achieve optimum health. Therefore, it is always best to choose a food that uses some type of meat as the first ingredient. The best foods will list meats as all three of the first ingredients and others will list one or more fillers, or digestible content that adds little or no nutritional value to the food. Nearly all dog food manufacturers use some kind of filler in their food, such as corn or wheat and the general rule is that the highest quality foods will have the least amount of fillers.

Dog foods can basically be broken down into three separate categories based on nutritional content and quality of ingredients used: Super Premium, Premium, and Generic. Junk food is not easier to eat.

There is something to be said about fast food being more convenient then healthy food that helps you be thin. I will give you that. But wait, how about this. Convenient when? It is definitely convenient now. How about later, when you don't have enough energy to do anything but go to sleep? Or when you cannot focus because all you feel like doing is taking a nap. We live in a world of now. A world of cause and effect. But the problem is that most people only look at immediate cause and immediate effect. Not fully realizing the body does not work on an instantaneous process. If you put something in your mouth, it can take hours to process the food, even days if your system is not working so good. So when people get heart burn, or are tired, or get headaches they often miss the fact that it may have been something other than what happened immediately before.

You cannot "save time". You can only spend it wisely. And no matter how convenient it may seem at the time, food that is "fast" never saves you time in the long run. What I do know is, I never wish to add fish of any kind, in any form, encapsulated, freeze dried, flaked or otherwise to orange juice, butter, yogurt, or any food for that matter.
