Healthy Food Choices Now Verses Then

Healthy food choices have changed through the years. What types of food were consumed in the old days and how were they kept. Healthy food choices are not as nutritous now with all these bad choices.

As I walked through the grocery store, I see rows upon rows of packaged foods, ready to cook, put in the microwave, or place in the oven. Or, I could walk over to the deli and pick up my entire meal, ready for devouring. Now, in my earlier days, things were different.

Our family lived on the farm. We raised and grew most of our food. A typical main meal would consist of roasted chicken, potatoes and gravy, corn, fruit salad, bread, butter, jam, apple pie, milk, postum, or coffee.

We planted a garden in the spring and ate vegetables as they came ripe. Our garden consisted of potatoes, peas, beans, radishes, lettuce, onoins, cucumbers, tomatoes, corn, kohlrabi, and squash. Canning and freezing was done to preserve the vegetables for eating in the winter. I counted 500 jars of canned goods on our basement shelves at one time. This is just the canned goods; we also had a frozen supply.

Conjure up a huge bowl of bright red strawberries served up with sugar and cream. With this we ate buttered bread. Raspberries would also be served with sugar and cream. Our mom had a strawberry patch near the gravel road. She gave out huge bowls of this fruit to neighbors who would be traveling by on the road. We had apple trees, so pies were made as well as applesauce. We planted watermelon, cantelope, and pumpkins in our garden. Watermelon and cantaloupe were enjoyed in the summer. A huge row of rhubarb grew by the garden, as this would come up every year. This was eaten as sauce, also canned or frozen for future use. Pumpkin was used for pies or desserts. In season, we picked wild grapes off the vines in treesand made grape jelly. Elderberries grew in some areas, so more pie filling.

Chickens, ducks, and geese were housed in seperate buildings on the farm. Chicken eggs were used in abundance for our meals and baking products. Duck and goose eggs were put under a "setting hen" and hatched out of the eggs. When grown, ducks and geese were harvested and put in the freezer for our food supply. Chickens were also harvested and frozen.

Our dairy herd supplied us with milk and cream. The pigs were raised, also beef cattle, and these were harvested and cut into meat lengths for putting in the freezer

Flour and needed supplies were purchased. We sold eggs by the case, so this money was used for baking supplies and staples for the home. We baked our bread, buns, coffee cake, rolls, biscuits, doughnuts, bars, or whatever we desired. It was work, but a pure joy of eating! Holidays brought forth different treats. One especially tempting was nuts. These were purchased in bulk in the shell. So we cracked many a shell for eating enjoyment.

Before water was piped into the house, it was carried by pail from the central well system. This was our drinking water. A cistern for washing water was usually near the house.

"From scratch" means you put the ingredients together to make your meal. I thought then, this was the way of things everywhere. Another big difference from then to now was we ate what was on the table and put in front of us. There wasn't the complaint, "I don't like this!" As now everything seems to be on "fast" speed, let's be thankful we are able to choose the food for our table.

Eat your Way to Hard Abs

1. Eat Six Meals a Day

To lose weight and change your shape, you have to raise your metabolic rate to burn more kilojoules, even when youre not exercising. One of the main ways to keep your metabolic rate stoked is by constantly feeding it. If you eat six times a day in the form of three meals and three snacks youll stay satisfied and free of cravings while avoiding the daily metabolic highs and lows that make you more likely to overeat.

2. Use your Blender

Your blender is a powerful tool to help you create a leaner body. Smoothies - blended mixtures of milk, low-fat yoghurt, whey powder, ice and other good stuff - can serve as meal substitutions and potent snacks. They require little prep time, they're filling and they taste like dessert if you add berries, flavored whey powder or peanut butter. Drink a 230ml smoothie for breakfast, or as a snack before or after your workout.

3. Know what to Drink

Okay, so water isn't the most exciting beverage, but drinking about eight glasses of it a day helps you stay well hydrated and satiated. (Many times, what we interpret as hunger is really thirst.) Other than water, the best drinks you can have are low-fat milk and green tea. If you must indulge in a soft drink, limit yourself to two glasses of the diet variety a day, and no matter what, can the regular soft drinks.

4. Focus on Power Foods

Diversify your food at every meal to get a combination of protein, carbs and fat. Make sure you sneak a little bit of protein into each snack.

5. Stop Counting

Though kilojoule burning is paramount to losing fat, kilojoule counting can be tedious and discouraging. The great news is that when you focus on the foods, the foods themselves will, in a way, count kilojoules for you. How? You'll eat often enough and with enough nutritional diversity that you'll stay full all day long rather than experience the blood-sugar surges that can cause you to annihilate everything in your pantry.

6. For one Meal a Week, Forget the other Five Principles

Take one meal during the week and forget about good carbs and good fats. Eat pizza, burgers or whatever it is that you miss the most. Have it, savor it and then be your better self for another week. The point is to control your diet by planning your weekly cheat meal ahead of time. If you schedule it, you'll stick to it.

The healthiest cut of beef: round. It comes from the rear end of the cow and has the least amount of fat and the highest amount of protein. Second best: loin.

Avocado slices should be a sandwich staple. They provide not only heart-healthy mono-unsaturated fats but also potassium, folate and fiber.

A study from Texas Tech University and the Mayo Clinic suggests that people who have a daily alcoholic drink are 54 percent less likely to have a weight problem than those who don't imbibe. (Having two drinks is also linked with less risk of being overweight, but consider that your cut-off: any more than two appears to reverse the trend.)

Taiwanese researchers determined that people who drank black, green or oolong tea at least once a week had 20 percent less body fat than those who drank none. And a Canadian study revealed that green tea kills the bacteria that cause bad breath.

Salsa is the ultimate condiment. It's low in kilojoules, packed with flavor and high in nutrients - including lycopene, an antioxidant that helps fight prostate cancer. Plus, it goes with virtually everything.

Interesting Facts About Pizza

As obsessed as the world is with food, not many people are able to tell you about their favorite food, unless it is what toppings they want. Here are some lesser-known facts about pizza.

What day of the year is pizza eaten more than any other day? The answer is Superbowl Sunday. That was a pretty easy one. The second most popular day is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Who would have thought it, but it makes perfect sense since no one wants to cook the day before Thanksgiving.

What is the absolute largest oven baked pie ever? The answer is 123 feet in diameter. Can you imagine how huge that is? It is hard to believe. It is also hard to imagine how big a single slice of that pie would look like.

When and where was the first oven baked pie served in the United States? The answer is it was served in 1905 at Gennaro Lombardi's Italian restaurant in New York City. That one makes perfect sense because after all, it is New York City.

Do you know how many pizzerias there are in the United States? There are 70,000 pizzerias in the United States and out of those 70,000 pizzerias, 65 percent of them are chains. That is truly an astonishing number. 65 percent!

This is an easy one: what is the most popular chain? If you guessed Pizza Hut, you are correct. In fact, there are over 12,000 restaurants worldwide and they hold 17 percent of the total industry sales market. However, as far as the industry chain that delivers the most of these Italian dishes, Dominos reigns supreme in the industry.

Okay here is another easy one. What is the most popular topping on a flat round pie? Pepperoni is the winner here. Some people are not big fans of pepperoni, but there is always Hawaiian style with ham, pineapple and cherries, though some places do not add the cherries.

Hand tossed pie is number two in both food service and take out food. What is number one in those categories?
Well it is surprising that pie is not number one in both of these categories. In food service, hamburgers are number one, and in take out food, chicken is number one. Many people would have thought that Chinese would have been number one in take out, but that just isn't so!

How was this delicious Italian pie invented in the United States? In the midst of World War 2, our soldiers saw Italians that were eating rolls or bread would dip it in sauce. That concept evolved into the delicious Italian pie it is today.

Here is another history type question. In the 1940's, if you went to Italy and ordered a pizza, what was not included on the pie? This is a stumper but the answer is actually meat. The pie had sauce, cheese and veggies but no meat whatsoever.

The next time someone asks you about what you like to eat, you can let them take this trivia and see how much they know about your favorite food.

Saving Money on Food and Groceries

The average family of 4 spends about $120 a week on ... ... to figures from the U.S. ... ... That adds up to over $6200 per year! There are many ways we can reduce our grocer

The average family of 4 spends about $120 a week on groceries according to figures from the U.S. Statistical Abstract. That adds up to over $6200 per year! There are many ways we can reduce our grocery bills, it just takes a little time each week. I will share with you ideas that I have gathered from other people as well as tips I have used myself.

Prepare

*Keep a list of needed grocery items on your refrigerater. Children can even help with this. When the've used the last of a particular item, have them add it to the list. This way you already have your grocery list made by the time you go shopping and you also won't have to make unnecessary side trips to the store to pick up items you have forgotten.
*Once a week, take about 15 minutes to scan the sales ad of the store you shop at. This way you will know what is on sale and you can add them to your list.
*Clip coupons! The best way I've found is to only clip items you use on a regulas basis. This way you won't be spending money on products you don't use. I used to spend more money at the grocery store using coupons because I was buying products just because I had a coupon for it without really needing it. So just clip the coupons for products you actually use!
*Don't go the store hungary. You will spend more than you planned because everything looks good!
*If you can, go without the kids. I always spend more when my kids are with me for 2 reasons. The first one is they want EVERYTHING! The second is if they are being difficult you will hurry without being able to comparison shop or you may miss some items on your list.

Shop:

*Stock up on items that are on sale. When hamburger is on sale, for example, for .99 per pound, buy at least 5 pounds. When you get home, seperate the meat in into 1 lb packages and freeze. Take advantage of 2 for 1 specials since meat will stay good in the freezer for quite a long time. Stock up on canned goods that you use on a regular basis and store them in your basement or linen closet or any other space you may have.
*Buy juice in concentrate form that mixes with water. They are cheaper that buying the pre-mixed refrigerated juice.
*Don't buy juiceboxes. Purchase refillable plastic juice bottles with built-in straws and fill them with juice yourself.
*Consider buying generic brands. Most items you can't tell the difference (e.g dried pasta, canned tomato products, canned beans and vegetables, juice, flour, raisins, rice, spices, butter, crackers, oatmeal and peanut butter). Sometimes it's worth it to pay more for name-brand items such as foil, plastic storage bags, paper towels, and dishwashing liquid. You're not saving any money if your generic foil rips or you need twice as many paper towels or dishwashing liquid to do the job.
*Buy large bags of chips and fill small plastic bags with them for kid's lunches

Monthly Recipe:

How to make your own Glass Cleaner-

Clean your glass, mirrors and windows with your own homemade glass cleaner! Combine one quart of water with 2 tablespoons of ammonia and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. (Some people like to add 2 drops of liquid hand dishwashing detergent.) Store it in a spray bottle, and just spray and wipe until your surfaces shine!

This recipe is quick and easy and, best of all, cheap!

Role of packaging design in food marketing

The key function of food packaging design is to attract more customers. Products need a strong brand identity and packaging which can communicate with consumers clearly. The information displayed through design on the package should be clear and relevant to your food product. A package designer balances the appeal as well as product safety and protection features. The package is always the first point of contact with the product and that is why the sale of the food product is dependent on a design with a clear and catchy message. The designers should have a clear understanding of the brand and they should know the consumerbehaviourtowards the brand.

Packaging should have information like the main logo, ingredients, nutritional information, and different discounts provided to the customers. All the shapes designed by designers should be appropriate in size and a little creativity can catch the attention of customers at first sight.

They will determinecolour, shape, and size of the design and try to demonstrate that in a consistent way.

Why not go on an Ethical and Organic Holiday?

If you thought organic and ethical behaviour just covered food and clothes you are mistaken it now covers holidays and hotels as well!

Are you of the opinion that the last thing you want to hear about when planning your holiday is ethics? Nearly everyone wants sun, sea and sand guilt free. If only it were that easy! Tourism, as the worlds leading industry, has increasingly detrimental effects on the environment. With 1 billion people set to travel, every year, by 2010 this situation can only get worse, unless we begin to think further than our sun screen factor. The author looks at a few local and international holidays and day trips that can minimise your effect on the environment and contribute to positive change.

International Trips and Community Tourism

Look for small companies who use locally managed tours and where conservation measures are already in place and where time is given over to gaining insights into the local environment and the lives of local people.

Community tourism aims to benefit and include the local communities, particularly indigenous people. Always check holidays are run with the involvement of local people and a fair share of profits goes back to local projects. Its like Fairtrade, but not for coffee.for holidays!

Environmental Working Holidays

Willing Workers on Organic Farms and the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) have projects in the UK and overseas. BTCV are offering a unique experience, the chance to do something practical for the country you visit and make a contribution to conservation on a global scale.

Day Trips

Why not visit an Organic Farm and:

  • Walk a farm trail and enjoy the countryside and its wildlife.
  • Organise an inspiring school visit.
  • Stock up with the freshest food at the farm shop.
  • Taste the farm produce at farm cafes.
  • Enjoy special open days or even stay on a farm.

Riverford Organic Vegetables want people to share our enjoyment of growing and eating good, seasonal, organic food. A farm visit followed by a meal in the Field Kitchen gives you the chance to experience the link between the field and plate, and to sample some outstanding cooking in a beautiful environment.

Why not stay at an Organic Hotel?

Penrhos Court Country Hotel has been a Herefordshire farm for 700 years, a country restaurant for over 25 years with hotel rooms for ten years. It has always been in the food business and the food business is its reason for being. Its future is to help protect our natural environment and the food it provides.

What is the Green Tourism Business Scheme?

Welcome to the Green Tourism Business Scheme. We are the largest and most successful environmental accreditation body of tourism related businesses in Europe and have over 500 members in the UK, including amongst others, accommodation providers, visitor attractions, tour operators and conference facilities.

While on Holiday why not eat at an Organic Pizza Place?

We were concerned about the extensive use of chemicals and fertilisers in virtually all food products and wanted to offer the ever-demanding customer a more wholesome menu. The menus from the food to the wine, and the branch decor are all full of natural flavours, textures and tones.

The cheapest way to stop eating junk food and start finding your ideal weight again.

Your health is your ... As a human being, youhave the choice to put in your stomach whatever you want. Itis YOU and only you that can choose what you want or not toeat. In other words, it

Your health is your responsability. As a human being, you
have the choice to put in your stomach whatever you want. It
is YOU and only you that can choose what you want or not to
eat. In other words, it is YOU who chooses to be slim and
fit or not. That is your choice. You need to take 100%
responsability of the way you eat. That's the beginning of
your success.

Now, you'll say: "I can't, it is stronger than me" or "look
at this cake, I can't leave it alone. It needs to be eaten."
or "It is so good, another one please!". The question is:
"Why do you eat?" Is it for pleasure or for fuel? After all,
food is just food, but the emotion we attach to food is so
strong that we tend to eat for pleasure or for an emotional
reward.

When you eat junk food, subconsciously you say YES! to it.
Let's learn another word: NO!
Most of us said, "No!" quite well when we were two and we
have grown up to be people pleasers and say "YES!" all the
time. Most of us believe that saying "No" can cost us a lot
in our adult life.

NO! is a powerful word when said at appropriate moments. One
of the best moments to say that powerful NO is when you want
to eat junk food.
Dr. Bob Bodenhamer, co-developer of neuro-semantics said,
"All change in essence boils down to saying 'No' to what you
don't want and 'Yes' to what you do want."

If this statement is correct, each time that you say YES to
junk food, you say, subconsciously of course "I want to be
fat and don't want to be slim and fit" even if consciously
you really want to be healthy and full of energy.

Words are power and your language is a representation of
your map. Let's add some choice to your map. The more
choices you have, the more success you will have.

Therefore, let's learn or re-learn to say this powerful NO!
The results of saying NO to certain foods are: you will have
a sense of control over your own body (you don't want to be
controlled by it, don't you?), you will feel more confident,
more self-esteem and eventually you will feel at peace. It
will reinforce your belief that you need to take 100%
responsibility for your own health and nobody will do it for
you

First, get a good strong representation of saying "No!" to
something. It doesn't need to be related to food. You will
want to make sure that your No looks, sounds, and feels
congruent and that it truly fits with your beliefs and
values.

Second, to reinforce this powerful NO, find 4 other
situations where you said NO!. It can be as simple "NO, it's
too late to go out now". The most important is that it needs
to be congruent. If you are a 100% people pleasers and can't
find any NO! situations, think of what it would be, how you
would feel and what you would hear if you had the courage to
say NO! to something or someone. This is this kind of NO!
that you need.

Third, Say No! to the junk food. Re-access the "it's
stronger than me" feeling and once you have it, say No! Do
it congruently, intensely, and repeatedly. And you can keep
on saying No! until you begin to feel that it no longer has
any power to run your programs. Notice how the feeling
diminish and how the desire for the food is far and
disappearing.
To finish, picture yourself already slim and fit. You
already know it's not hard to do it. Now, say a big "YES!
That's what I want!"

As you know, you have the power of saying NO! Everybody
does. But we are trapped with some limited old thinking that
eating is for a reward or for pleasure. We are conditioned
to eat for false reasons. When you keep repeating this
pattern, you break some old belief and it comforts you: you
can change, you can do it, can't you?

A great place to go: Plovdiv! Once you're here, just follow the
crowds and you'll find yourself in the midst of great convivial
Bulgarian hospitality ... excellent food and drinks, lively music,
beautiful girls and ... well, you get the idea. It is just not
possible to mention one or two favorite clubs, restaurants or bars.
The biggest crowds are on the wide pedestrian shopping street in the
city's center, but on every side street you'll find charming
restaurants with great food and prices that will stretch your dollars
farther that you ever thought possible. A friend and I had a great
dinner of salads, potatoes and meat plus coffee and beverage for $3.50
USD total. In two years, I have experienced very few disappointments
in Plovdiv. You won't go wrong at the restaurants in the hotels, but
you will miss a tremendous opportunity if you fail to set out down a
side street and let your nose lead you to a great "mehana" (barbecue)
and your ears will find the way to good entertainment. Our early "beer
festival" gets underway next week and it's gonna be great!

The Plovdiv markets are bursting with the first of this year's
locally-grown produce. Last week we enjoyed beautiful sweet juicy
strawberries at the peak of perfection! Fresh strawberries, sprinkled
with a little sugar and cold, thick Bulgarian yoghurt! MMMMmmm! And
now the dark red (black) cherries are just beginning to appear. The
Plovdiv region is the heart of all Bulgaria's fresh produce; our
restaurants are never lacking for fresh fruits and vegetables to
serve. Grown here, the produce is fresher and less expensive ... it
is no wonder that food quality and prices in Plovdiv restaurants is
better than any other city in Bulgaria.

Take a tour of Plovdiv at Plovdiv City Guide; there are more than 300
photos of this modern, yet ancient city. Plovdiv's history goes back
6-thousand years! Thracian ruins are preserved for scholarly or
casual examination. Hotel rooms are cheap and plentiful; $48 per
night in standard modern hotels right in the heart of the city.

Plovdiv gave a great reception to Pope John Paul II at the end of May; he was more enthusiastic and lively during his meeting with our young people than at any other time during his latest East European tour.
His visit in Sofia (our capital) was not at all the same. There is
truly something special about Plovdiv.

We offer a free newsletter to those interested in learning more about our unique city. You may subscribe on the web site.

Questioning a Providence Restaurant

My curiosity got the best of me and I edged my way through the crowd as I tried to discern that cause of all the commotion. I finally manage to get to a better angle and it was there that I realized that this line was for a food truck.

First of all, the last thing I want to do is put anyoneelse in a bad mood. I never understood that my words were so important to somany people. Also, if my numerous fans start boycotting my work than I willhave no ability to provide for my family and no body wants that. Because Ialways listen to my fans, I have decided to write about things that I enjoy orthat I think are really swell. I must admit that the prospect of writingpositive articles was daunting. I sat in front of my old-fashioned typewriterand stared blankly into space as writers block firmly settled into my mind. Inan attempt to acquire some inspiration, I hit the streets to walk around andhopefully clear my head. As I roamed the streets I saw only a glass half empty. It seemed that I could not possibly think positively. I turned around thecorner of a dirty side street and was confronted by a line small crowd ofpeople lined up around the corner. I nearly bumped into someone. My curiositygot the best of me and I edged my way through the crowd as I tried to discernthat cause of all the commotion. I finally manage to get to a better angle andit was there that I realized that this line was for a food truck.

The Truck was a big and blue with yellow letters. There wasa counter-like opening on its side that was clearly the business end of thisoperation. The truck looked a little run down but the kitchen looked relativelyclean and the smell of frying onions and cooked meats was undeniably delicious.I found my mood brightening in spite of myself. I edged in to the line andwondered to myself whether this could be considered a Providence Restaurantor if mobile food operations fell into a category of their own. Finally I wasgetting close enough to the truck that I could read the menu. I scanned myoptions and grappled with the difficult decision ahead. I was immediately drawnto the burritos because they are so awesome but I had seen some of the burritosother people had bought and they did not look that great. Rather than look atthe menu, I used a strategy that I find invaluable whenever I go out to eat.Upon entering the restaurant I make a point of eyeballing everyone elses foodon the way to my table to get a sense of what I want to eat. Stay tuned for thestunning conclusion to my food cart escapade.

I remember as do all of us my parentsand grandparents telling me that my eyes were bigger than me belly and the allto uncomfortable feeling in my tummy soon after that they were right.

This is a little lose weight tip witha big impact.

Your Stomach is approximately thesize of your fist. But look at your plate of food this afternoon or tonight atthe dinner table! Its not a set guide but its important to consider the size ofthe food portion on your plate.

That lunchbox had so much food inthat you had to put it in a bag with the extra bits that would not fit in. Andbecause its a lunch box you had to eat it all at lunch in one go!

To start try and limit the food tothat which will only fit in the lunch box. I like to use a little lose weighttip and call it a day box or bag. You can still put those extra bits in the bagalong with the lunch box but eat them throughout the day and not just at lunchtime. Spread your food intake out over the course of the day.

If you starve yourself between mealsthen your body does not know when it is going to get its next meal and sostores fat.

We all love looking forward to a bigdinner, our reward for a hard days work, "I know I do" (I would lookat my food on my dinner plate and it would be two maybe three fist full's offood. Look at yours! Gradually reduce the size. Everything in weight loss takestime if its going to have a longer lasting affect.

After all we all love food so thereis no point in starving yourself to lose weight. Maybe put some of the dinneraside to have as a little snack later.

It is important not to skip meals asthis may make you more at risk of snacking on unhealthy foods.(Definitely fooditems that include "go large" or "super size" should be offyour radar. Its exactly what you will do GO LARGE and you won't lose weighteasy!

Start Your Hunt to Have Best Food Of The World

Restaurants are an inseparable part of our lives in todays world. Gone are the days, when our parents used to make us eat at home on a daily basis.

Nowadays, almost every second child eats out from the home whether they are residing out, in the Hostel or they like to eat outside. It is not that eating out is bad. What matters the most is, the place where you are dining in. If the place where you are having food, prepares food similar to your home, then there is nothing bad going for it. But, if the place is just good to look at, and is bad in maintaining the customers health, then you are wasting your time.

Go back to home prepared meal or find out the best place to dine in. I and my family love to spend our holidays, having best of the cuisines of the world. This time, our mother gave us the challenge to find out such restaurant that has almost every type of facilities. Facilities such as Real Pub, Real Food and Real Beer; Pre- theater dining, fantastic food show carnival, best place to stay in and so on. We thought that it was quite impossible to find such place and that also having all of the above mentioned qualities.

When we were about to drop our plan that we are unable to find such type of place and such type of restaurant having all these facilities. Our mother came up with a long list, containing name of the Best restaurants in Lancashire. We were surprised to see her energy. The task that we were unable to do for a week time, she did it within two days. After that, we finalized the hotel that we wanted to enjoy the food of and have total fun of life. We went, enjoyed the food with the great taste of beer. The taste was just awesome. We didnt felt that we were having food outside home.

There is no doubt that this was the best restaurants in Lancashire. Moreover, after our experience in this restaurant, we decided to get connected with this restaurant time and again. Now, I have become regular visitor of their site. While checking it on the daily basis, I found that they were going to organize fantastic Fine dining show in Lancashire on May 19th, 2013. Now, how could we stop, as they had already made us their fan?

Vegetarianism and raw food enthusiasts fall into many different groups with different theories of what kind of natural foods are best. Most vegetarians eat fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains. Vegans eat no animal by-products at all, including dairy or eggs. Fruitarians eat primarily fruits. And some vegetarians eat only sprouts.

Sprouts are very nutritious because they contain all the elements a plant needs for life and growth. The endosperm of seed is the storehouse of carbohydrates, protein and oil. When the seed germinates, these become predigested amino acids and natural sugars upon which the plant embryo feeds to grow. This life force we eat is filled with energy which is capable of generating cells of the body and supplying us with new vigor and life. For this reason sprouts can retard the ageing process.

Sprouts contain goodly amounts of male and female hormones, as well, in their most easily assimilated form. Research shows that sprouts are among the highest food in vitamins. They are not only a low cost food but are also tasty and easy to grow. Children and the elderly can make sprouting a profitable hobby. All of us can profit from the boost to health they provide.

Almost any seed, grain or legume can be sprouted though some are tastier than others. You may try mung beans, alfalfa, wheat, peas, fenugreek, chickpeas, radish, fennel, celery seed, etc. These are most readily found in natural food stores. Remember to soak small seeds only for 4 hours and beans for 15 hours. You also can mix these seeds. Get a 2 liter wide-mouth jar and a piece of cheesecloth or old nylon stocking to fasten as a cover with a rubber band. Put seed into the jar as follows:

2 Tsps alfalfa, 2 Tsps radish or fenugreek, 1/4 cup lentils, 1/2 cup mung beans. Soak these seeds for 15 hours and drain the water. Afterwards rinse and drain well twice daily for about 3-5 days. If you wish to make larger amounts of sprouts, so you may share with others, place 2 cups of mixed seed into a large porcelain pot, in the bottom of which holes have been drilled for easy rinsing. Simply place underneath the faucet and rinse morning and evening with warm water. Cover with a plate. The seeds grow beautifully and abundantly in a few days.

Strategies To Learn On Mobile Catering

Many people love to eat on-the-go and so as the public attention towards fast foods and now to various types of kiosks found in malls, theatres, markets, etc. Well, the unlimited hunger of people is what makes this type of business well-known and abundant and so this chance to earn more by providing foods to people shouldn't be overlooked. But think about combining the idea of kiosks or food carts and moving fastfoods and restaurants...what would that be? Well that's the birth of mobile catering. It is a food business wherein you offer prepared food via a running vehicle.

This has been introduced in the urban culture in many countries nowadays especially in the United States.

Varieties of Mobile Catering: There are however wide models of mobile catering businesses. Firstly are as stated, food carts. These are the types with motorless trailer that can either be carried by a bicycle, automobile or by hand situated at places like parks and sidewalks. Since they are more portable they carry on-board heating and refrigeration system to keep the food new and ready for consumption. Foods that are usually offered are the easy-to-cook and eat foods and meals such as: hotdogs, sausages, burritos, tacos, bagels, donuts, sandwiches, and even frozen treats and coffee. Also, breakfast meals like bacon, egg and cheese are most usual food items.

How Mobile Businesses Work: While a mobile catering business permits every vendor to offer to a larger audience plus bring food anytime and anywhere, they can reach a bigger market that will yield larger return of investment as well. For instance, United Kingdom and Canada produce ice cream vans more prominently in the areas. Throughout the summer season, catering vans offering ice creams are certainly popular.

Alternatively, some mobile food trucks are also developed for hot foods and therefore have barbeque grill equipment and deep fryer to cook and prepare foods. This makes it more versatile for vendors to alter from one menu to another and at the same time keep foods always fresh and delicious for buyers. Also, a vendor can have the capacity to choose where to position the vans where there are lots of people in the area. For the expenses, it will then just call for gas, tickets and permits that will cost a few hundred dollars. But with the continuous increase of mobile food business consumers, that's also the reason why taco trucks of west coast United States, fish and chips vans of United Kingdom have created record-breaking sales and franchises.

And thus for chefs, concession trailers like this will provide a cozy mobile kitchen for them to create as much quality recipes and visit the places they love as well. They can take part in events and offer foods in fun fairs for several days that will result in publicity to themselves and delicacies.

Put simply, farmers markets aretremendous for the consumer, the producer, and the environment.

The Pros and Cons of Farmers Markets

Guardianship for our environment is one of the greatest concerns for all of us now. Everybody is looking for directions in which to assist. Measures like trimming back the number of plastic bags we utilize, turning off lights when they are not necessary and waste product recycling have all been put into practice. Yet, one new thing that we can all do, that we do not ordinarily look at, is change to buying local foodstuffs from a farmers market.

A lot of waste that goes on today is by packaging. If you study your local farmers market, the packaging is limited. Produce such as fruit and vegetables are not prepackaged but remain loose. As they are developed nearby, they have not too far to travel which reduces the fuel intake called for to transfer the commodities.

Another advantage to foods picked up in farmers markets is that you understand precisely where it has been. You can ask the producer as many queries as you like and they will be able to give you genuine, information-packed responses about the products they are selling. Anything could have happened to imported produce on its protracted journey. There is also the problem that produce which is imported is normally treated with chemicals to ensure that it survives longer. Local produce does not require to be processed with anything, as it is not travelling as far.

Local concerns will be aided when you purchase from a farmers market. It is more cut-rate for companies to buy locally and simpler besides. Likewise, concerns near farmers markets will profit from the extra business that they pick up after a market has been held. This helps to bring both rural and town communities together.

Without a doubt, the main advantage to consumers is the quality of the products. Usually, you get to taste the different wares on show before you purchase. Homemade jams, spreads and newly-baked cakes are all there to try out. You will find fresh tender meat, flowers, and hand-crafted decorations besides. There is an astonishing variety of food forthcoming all with its own specific terrific taste!

Considering all these facts, it makes sense to buy fresh produce that is produced locally. Farmers markets hand you the prospect to backup your local residential district as well as allowing you to taste honest-to-goodness quality, unspoilt foods.

One final point, if you cannot drive or have restricted mobility, there are today internet farmers markets that allow you to look at the produce of your local farms on their website and have your selected produce delivered to your door.

Mexican food has been popular as long as its been around and is enjoyed in any Mexican restaurant in Las Vegas, Dallas, Mexico City, north, south, east and west, wherever it can be found. Originally, Mexican food originates from none other than Mexico and is popular for spicy flavorings and colorful ingredients. There are definitely staples of a typical Mexican dish, such as a side of flavored rice and a side of beans either refried or black beans. Mexican food often uses tomatoes, guacamole, and flour or corn tortillas to create savory dishes.

Beans and/or corn are found in nearly every Mexican food dish. The corn is used in so many aspects of creating the ideal dish, such as in recipes for gorditas, tamales, tortillas, and eaten fresh as a side dish or to be used in chili in a cup. Spicy flavoring comes from frequently used herbs such as cilantro, cinnamon, oregano, and chili powder and rare is the Mexican dish in a Mexican restaurant in Las Vegas that doesnt contain at least one of these spices.

Another popular ingredient in Mexican food is, surprisingly enough to some, honey. Honey is used in several traditional Mexican beverages and desserts and used with sopapillas.

Though corn is widely popular and used in pretty much every conceivable Mexican recipe, rice comes in as a close second in use and popularity. Rice is a frequent side dish and used as a filler in many enchiladas or inside of fajitas. There are many ways to season the rice to give it an authentic flavor, but its rarely, if ever, served plain and white.

Cheese is also a must and is used in multiple pounds in any Mexican Restaurant in Las Vegas on any given day. Various cheeses are used in each Mexican restaurant in Las Vegas to create a unique blend for tortillas and enchiladas.

Finding the best Mexican food in a specific city or town is often quite the challenge. Many people have very particular tastes and opinions when it comes to truly delicious Mexican food. Some people refuse to eat any unless it is truly authentic and made by those of Mexican descent who follow very traditional recipes. Others prefer more modern or slightly altered Mexican recipes with new twists and even with European or American influences. By searching online for restaurant reviews or by asking the opinion of the locals, you can be sure to get some decent leads at the very least to enjoy a night out of truly delicious food.

There are different kinds of products being sold on the internet. If you actually want to buy Italian foods online, then a quick search should let you find the right shops. Shopping through the internet is different from shopping at actual stores. There are a number of things that need to be remembered when you do this.

There are several businesses that may be selling the product and each one would probably be have different items in their selection. Do not be afraid to explore and to shop around so that you can find the items you want. There are different ingredients, flavors, and methods of preparation.

Check how much the item costs and determine if the price is any lower if you purchase this from another store. Aside from comparing prices, be on the lookout for discounts and coupons. These will help you stay on budget. Do not forget to factor in the costs of shipping and handling.

Consider security especially when it comes to payment. The website should be secure before you provide your personal information. Food Additive Watch: Should You Avoid Carrageenan?

I realize carrageenan has already been all over the news, so you'd think by now most people would have a good grasp of what it is and whether it's safe or not. Strangely, that's not the case. Most of the time when I mention the addition of carrageenan to a product, I get asked whether or not they should care. In fact many say they've heard of the ingredient but aren't quite sure what the concern is. Dare I admit I wasn't sure either?

Yeah, I too saw the rampant reports of carrageenan in the blogospheres and its portrayal as "bad." However I knew it was derived from seaweed... So how bad could it be? I thought I should finally figure it out for myself.

Like I mentioned, carrageenan is derived from edible seaweeds. It is a sulphatedpolysaccharide that has been used as early as 600 BC in China and then later in Ireland and Scotland where it is commonly used as a thickener in many local concoctions. It is now used all over the world. It's often used in meat and dairy to gel, thicken and stabilize, but it is also used in a host of other products, especially those suitable for vegans or vegetarians.

What was surprising to me is that there are actually 3 types of carrageenan, each with slightly different properties that determines its use in foods. One forms a very thick gel for example, another forms a soft gel, and the other doesn't gel at all but gently thickens. Because carrageenan is an indigestible polysaccharide, it is technically considered a dietary fiber.

On the surface this all seems very benign. Seaweed and fiber sounds OK to me, and in fact seems a lot more natural than many other chemical additives on the market these days. Even the refining process doesn't seem terribly complex. There are a few methods used to do this, but all of them include washing and cooking the seawood in hot alkali, then cooking, drying and milling.

There are also two forms of carrageenan: degraded and undegraded. Undegradedcarrageenan, or carrageenan as we know it, is the product used in food products. Degraded carrageenan, or poligeenan as it's called, it not approved for use in foods.

The concerns, it appears, arise from evidence that carrageenan may have adverse effects in our GI tracts and may also play a role in promoting cancer. These issues stem from carrageenan's apparent ability to stimulate inflammation. Dr. Weil, in his writing on the topic, explained that the drug industry actually uses carrageenan to INDUCE inflammation in order to test anti-inflammatory medications. Additionally a researcher found that mice developed glucose intolerance and impaired insulin after 18 days of "low" dose carrageenan exposure. That's certainly something to consider (1).

BUT, in an article on carrageenan by Chris Kessler (2), he pointed out that most of these studies use poligeenan, NOT carrageenan. This makes a huge difference in how we interpret these studies and outcomes because, as I mentioned, we are not consumingpoligeenan in the food supply. Most likely the type of carrageen used by the drug industry to promote inflammation is poligeenan, not the carrageenan we are exposed to in food products.

That being said, there are still some studies that have shown minimal to moderate intestinal damage in animals exposed to large amounts of food grade carrageenan. The Cornucopia Institute, for example, lists several (3). It is theorized that some of theundegraded carrageenan becomes degraded in our GI tracts, thereby making it extremely inflammatory. Alternatively there are other studies showing no damage or very little damage. A recent study involving rats found no damage after 90 days of carrageenan consumption. It seems the science so far is less than clear and the extrapolation to humans even less clear (4).

No studies have been done on humans for obvious reasons, however a few studies have looked at changes to intestinal cells when exposed to food grade carrageenan. Overall it did appear that inflammatory processes were induced and cell death increased (not good), but given that these experiments were all done in vitro, it's still hard to say how carrageenan reacts in the human body under normal conditions when ingested with food and other liquids.

Clearly I need to do more research on this as there is so much conflicting data, but overall I would recommend using carrageenan sparingly if at all. If you can avoid it then by all means do, especially if you already have GI disorders that might make your system more fragile and vulnerable than others. It's likely, however, that some exposure here and there might not be the outright travesty on your health that some bloggers would like you to believe. Demonizing the food industry is popular and makes for exciting headlines. Now I'm not one to defend food manufacturers, but I also search for the truth. The truth in this case is we just don't know. Use in moderation (which means not daily) and support producers who are making their products without chemicals. Better yet, eat a whole-foods diet and you won't need to worry about encountering these additives. On the flip side, don't freak out if you ingest a little carrageenan. I think you will be OK.

London - Where Catering is at it's Best

The article gives a brief note about London catering. The gamut of food is mesmerising! The presentation of food is fantastic. It has catered the needs of many celebrities and the royals with terrific passion.

There are literally thousands of catering companies in the UK, from small 'workspace caterers' who may provide simple freshly made sandwiches and cakes for office workers at lunchtime, to the top end 'corporate and celebrity' caterers who work alongside the country's leading event organisers and party planners to deliver the very finest and most luxurious food to blue chip business organisations, society and royal families, and celebrities from stage and screen. In between the two are a huge variety of caterers, serving all kinds of food, from all countries and for all tastes and budgets.

The overall package provided can vary enormously too, and can include waiting staff, fine wines and champagnes, cocktail barmen, sushi chefs, or even showgirls and circus performers. The catering industry is important behind the scenes too on film sets, on location on music video shoots, or at TV productions.

Catering companies can provide food for a small family christening, costing a few hundred pounds, or a charity gala for thousands of people costing hundreds of thousands of pounds. The variety and scope within the industry is enormous.

Whilst there are thousands of catering companies based throughout the UK providing these services, the majority, and of course therefore the greatest variety, are in London literally hundreds of companies are based where the big spending event clientele are, and these companies are able to cater for corporate events for London's financial industry, for royal weddings, for film stars 40th birthday parties, and for everything in between. The most well known, such as "rhubarb" food design or The Admirable Crichton, work in the top end celebrity market, but even that side of the industry is extensive, with almost 20 high end catering companies in London alone.

London's catering industry is renowned for its excellence as well as its uniqueness. In the States, where catering is rather less stylised, the competition is much smaller. Here in London, where so many do it so well, clients ideas for their dream parties are made reality, style and decor are creative and ground breaking, menus are changed seasonally and regularly to reflect food trends and news, and overall, the catering industry reflects how important food is to the discerning people of London.

With so many high earning industries based in London too industries that do a great deal of business in the event sphere and to whom parties are of crucial importance to financial success (media, politics, banking and finance), it is natural that the catering industry is centred in the city.

And so a few of the catering companies based in London have made their food an absolute art form. Towering ice laden piles of seafood may greet guests when they enter a room, miniature versions of British classics constructed into tiny mouthfuls are served from perspex platters, oriental china bowls of delicately scented curry, cakes and pastries served with tiny ice cream cones, nothing is impossible.

Most catering companies can work in varying venues, and London can provide the perfect choice of those too museums and galleries, courts, parks, palaces and public spaces. A sit down dinner in a marquee in one of London's oldest squares, a champagne reception at the top of the Lloyds building in the city caterers are adept at setting up, cooking and serving in any space, anywhere.

Some of London's better caterers have restaurant experience too, they have either been born out of restaurants such as Urban Caprice or Fifteen or they have ventured into that side of the food and drinks industry like Rhubarb Food Bar London catering and The Gallery Mess. Both work hand in hand in London, again reflecting just how much the food industry here is voracious in its appetites.

Cobie The Worlds First Talking Robotic Waiter

Cali cafe has introduced the Robot called “Cobie” as Food Serving Robotic waiter to serve the customers with easy and creating a feasible environment of the restaurant services. With the inception of Cobie, Cali cafe is targeting to lower the manpower crunch and improve the quality of service. Technological Advancement made this unique idea of a robot as a waiter into the reality of service provider. And in this initiative, Cali Cafe is promoting the Robot Technology in the Food & Beverages Industry.

A cafe is a place which usually serves hot coffee, and coffee beverages, tea, other hot beverages and some suitable snacks. Some coffee houses also serve cold drinks such as iced tea and iced coffee.

One such coffee outlet is Cali Cafe at Rochester Park Avenue hotel in Singapore. Cali cafe is a group of Cafe stores established in Singapore which serves Californian style food including Baby Back Ribs and Steak with Fries Embraced with books and soft music, and this cafe is a perfect place to stop and look for One for one lunch and the best pastries, desserts, coffee and cakes in the town.

Like a normal cafe & restaurant Cali cafe was having their food served manually via waiters, but with the rise in technology, Cali has come up with a new mode of serving food, that is via robots. The talking robot who serves the food without any external help once it gets calibrated.

Taking the orders and delivering the food was an easy task which requires immediate attention but on the other hand is boring too. To handle this problem, Cali Cafe has launched a robot “Cobie”, which is a perfect waiter for the cafe. The four-wheeled robots are four feet tall, weigh about 10 kgs and travel at 10 KM per hour.

Let us understand the features of “Cobie”:
  • Serves food warm until delivery.
  • Serves food to the hotel rooms.
  • It can call on to the customer's phone and information about food.
  • It understands the infrastructure of the hotel.
  • And preventing collision with a human or a material object.
How Cobie Works?
  1. First, you select the room number by typing on the screen.
  2. Then you load food into compartments of the robot.
  3. Wait for few seconds for the information to be processed and off the robot goes delivering the food to hotel rooms.

The robot was on trial for a year before becoming a permanent feature of the eatery since the start of 2017.

Cobie uses driverless technology and has sensors to prevent it from knocking into obstacles. It was also calibrated to deal with the infrastructures in the hotel. It can even ring up the phone to the customer to inform him that food has arrived.

Cobie was set to use in the cafe on 5th March 2017, in their ROCHESTER DRIVE cafe branch. The day was started with a party, and the guests included the customers, the managerial staff, and Mr.TeoSer Luck who is a currently a Minister of State at the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Mayor of the North East District of Singapore.

At the event, Mr.TeoSer Luck (Minister of State at the Ministry of Trade and Industry) said, “I think it’s a good experience and euphoric to see using technology is helpful, and with the manpower saving, you can add more resources to the places where you need more attention. This has been very helpful and as a good example for the case of a smaller size to consider. Technology must be easier to use, easy to integrate and also easy to implement then only it would be successful to reduce the burden from manpower.”

“Cobie” the food delivering robot is manufactured by a local Singaporean company called Technometrics Solutions who are manufacturers of technical and robotic components.

On inquiring with the staff, they felt relaxed because they can now focus on other activities like cooking the food, improving the interiors and cleaning the interiors.

Food Poisoning Symptoms

Food poisoning is caused due intake of leftover food stuff which is contaminated by bacteria, viruses, environmental toxins or toxins present in food itself. The harmful bacteria present in the leftovers can upset your stomach and you can suffer from diarrhea, vomiting, headache, and an upset stomach with cramps troubling you till the bacteria is flushed out. The symptoms of food poisoning depend on the type of contaminant, the amount eaten, the persons general health and his resistance power. The symptoms can be seen within 2 to 6 hours of eating the contaminated food. The most common symptoms are Diarrhea, Abdominal pain or cramps, Nausea, Vomiting, Headache, Weakness accompanied with fever. If the food poisoning is mild, you can opt for home remedies, but in severe cases you need to consult a doctor or even get hospitalized. Food Poisoning is caused due to harmful bacteria and viruses that attack our internal system. These symptoms occur as the food-borne bacteria releases toxins in our body. These toxins affect our internal organs like stomach, small intestine and large intestine, all of these are major organs of our digestive system. Due to vomiting and diarrhea the victim may further suffer from dehydration. The major bacteria affecting the victims health are listed below: Salmonella: This bacterium gives victim flu like symptoms due to which you can suffer for up to 7 days. Botulism: This is the most harmful bacteria which has a paralyzing effect on the nervous system. Initial symptoms are visible within 18 to 48 hours after consumption of food contaminated due to Botulism. In the beginning you may experience dryness in mouth, nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain and blurred vision. As the nervous system is affected, the brain fails to perform accurately and thus restricts the nerves to carry messages from brain. The face and the neck area are also severely affected as the control over muscles in these areas is lost. You are not able to eat as you cant swallow anything properly which further leads to choking of any foreign body in lungs and thus may lead to death of the victim. If treated on time and under proper guidance of doctors you can save the victims life. A powerful injection is given to the patient suffering from food poisoning, which helps to counteract toxin caused due to bacteria and thus limits paralysis. But the serum injected cannot help recover the already damaged nerves, it prevents further damage of these nerves. The severity of the condition depends on the amount of food consumed. Staphylococcal food poisoning: The symptoms for this type of food poisoning are severe abdominal pain or cramps along with high fever, vomiting and diarrhea. This bacterium affects the body of the victim after about 6 hours of consumption of contaminated food. The staph bacteria releases toxin called enterotoxin which occurs mainly due to consumption of dairy products, pastries and fish products. This food is a home place for such harmful organisms. Food Poisoning is a common but a dangerous disease which in severe cases can affect the nervous system paralyzing the victim or in acute cases may lead to death. Thus, food consumed should be eaten with utmost care as leftover food can lead you to severe health hazards.

Food supplements for a hungry market

Parry Nutraceuticals has been synonymous with the food supplement Spirulina for many years now. One does remember the numerous press advertisements, all in patent yellow predominantly, putting forth to the public the virtue of this algae. But did you know that Parry's Spirulina is the result of twenty years of intensive research in micro-algal technology?

It started off as an initiative for providing nourishment for the under privileged village children and became a committed movement for ushering in better health, on a far larger scale. Scientific cultivation processes and stringent quality checks ensure that Parry's Spirulina is the best available internationally. Catering Services in Los Angeles

If you're looking for catering services, Los Angeles can be challenging. Los Angeles is one of the world's great food places, and this is reflected in both the mixture and the quality of the food that's available here.

If you're looking for catering services, Los Angeles can be daunting. The city is one of the world's greatest food cities, and this is reflected in both the mixture and the quality of the food that's around here. When selecting from the many great catering services Los Angeles gives you, there are a few things you to know so you can make the decision a simpler one.

The Internet Is Your Friend

From professional review sites such as Zagat and the Los Angeles Times food section to community-based portals like Yelp and Urban Spoon, there's simply no shortage of discovering advice on the internet about which are the best catering services Los Angeles can boast. Equally useful are the various social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. The former can provide generally unbiased and independent opinions, while the latter are primarily good for opinions from people with tastes similar to yours.

What Do You Like?

Your decision can be simplified immediately by simply selecting what type of cuisine you like, or what type of cuisine is appropriate for your event. If you know that your guests all enjoy Italian food (and who doesn't enjoy Italian food?) you can save lots of time by only considering Italian catering services. LA is still the home of a great many Italian restaurants, but it's a much more manageable number than before choosing the style of cooking.

Location, Location, Location

Los Angeles is a large city and, let's be honest, the traffic is atrocious. If your event is in Agoura Hills and the catering company is located all the way in Pasadena, what is the likelihood that a hot platter will remain hot, and a cold dish still cold?

It could sound like common sense to select a catering company located as close as possible to your event, and the closer that they are the better, yet, several people overlook this aspect of caterer screening.

Do you Have Experience?

Catering services, whether they are in LA, are in an exceedingly competitive industry. This is clearly demonstrated simply by observing how many new restaurants go out of business within a year or two of opening. If a caterer's business has been running for a many years, it's a good indication of both the quality, and the consistency of their food. It's also a great sign that they take customer service seriously.

May I Help You?

Even though the quality of the food is vital, it is far from the only thing you should consider. When you are half way through planning your celebratory event, great customer service from your caterer is absolutely essential. Good communication skills, and an interest in and understanding of your needs can go a long way towards making your job much, much easier.

Picking from the vast selection of catering services Los Angeles has to offer can be a daunting task for anybody, but it is especially so if it's your first time planning a big event. Restaurant score sites and social networking can be priceless sources of recommendations. Make it easier on by narrowing your options by choosing one or two possible cuisines from the start can simplify the whole process, and save you time. And a quick phone call has the potential to easily answer all your questions about how customer friendly a caterer will be.
